Linux Distros Released the Week of 2010-06-07

Syllable Server 0.4 (release announcement)

This release focuses on maturing existing functionality, improving security, ongoing system restructuring, and making the system a suitable base for third-party package managers. Extensive work was done, so the full change log is quite long. live DVD 0.9.6 (release announcement)

Absolute Linux 13.1.1 (release announcement)

This release (13.1.1) incorporates Slack's 13.1 as well as several re-compiles on Absolute and a couple scripting changes.

Some add-ons in CD2 directory of the FTP sites (Google-Chrome and Picasa, for example), gmail-notify added and incorporated into email notification setup as an option. AddRemove programs (PERL script) updated.

Zorin OS 3 (release announcement)
  • Zorin OS 3 now comes pre-installed with a brand new exclusive program called the Zorin OS Look Changer.
  • During the installation of Zorin OS 3, you will see a slideshow that shows you around Zorin OS.
  • New themes (Shine Mac and Shine Dark) and the better looking splash screen (now using Plymouth instead of USplash)
  • The new Shine Mac theme resembles the Mac OS X theme with a Zorin OS Shine look. We have also included a dark theme called "Shine Dark". We have also made a Start Menu theme to suit the Dark look.
  • The splash screen has also been changed.
  • A new set of wallpapers have also been included in Zorin OS 3.
  • Thanks to Ubuntu 10.04, we have also included the new integrated social networking solution into the desktop.
  • Rhythmbox Music Player updates
  • Zorin OS 3 now ships with the OpenShot movie editor instead of Kino which was shipped with Zorin OS 2.0.
  • We have also included the VLC Media Player by default in all versions of Zorin OS 3.
  • Zorin OS now ships with the open source Nouveau Nvidia graphics card driver.
  • We have included new native wireless drivers in Zorin OS for better hardware compatibility.
  • Now users can enjoy 10 second boot times with good hardware. Overall performance has also been improved dramatically.

Sidux 2010-01 (release announcement)

Now that KDE 4.4.4 and kernel 2.6.34 have entered the archive, we have the pleasure to announce the immediate availability of the final sidux 2010-01 "Ύπνος" release, shipping in the following flavours:

sidux is a full featured Debian sid based live CD with a special focus on hard disk installations, a clean upgrade path within sid and additional hardware and software support. The ISO is completely based on Debian sid, enriched and stabilized with sidux' own packages and scripts.
